This was another busy week teaching! The first two days were spent at my first school, but for the last two and for next week, I am in another school! Although I really love my old school, our new one is REALLY cool too! It is in a really old building, but last year they completely gutted out the inside, so their facilities are basically new. It is a 5 story school with 2-3 classrooms on each floor and a really cool attic space that they use for the after school program. All of the teachers are really nice though and I like it a lot!
For our half day this week, the girls and I went into Leiden to hang out with a student teacher from the International school. We took the train in and immediately found the giant windmill on the edge of town. After learning a little about the history of Dutch windmills, we climbed to the top, took some pictures and headed into the center of town. After wandering though the city center we met up with Bastian, who is a student at Leiden University. We picked up dinner and headed to his apartment to watch the Milan/Arsenal soccer game. Although it ended up not being a very good game, it was fun to get to chat with students here in Holland!
Then, Thursday night, we went into town for an early fair well dinner with our teachers and advisers. It was a great meal and really fun to meet the other girls teachers! We had tons of time to chat with everyone and really enjoyed getting to spend time together outside of the classroom. Also, some of the students from the Hague University and Leiden University who had acted as local contacts for us were there! It was fun to see them again and get to know them better. After dinner, all the students went out in the Hague and we got the chance to see what Dutch students do for fun! All in all we had a wonderful night! This weekend we are heading in to Belgium so I'm sure there will be much more to post!
