I Amsterdam

We are back from our whirlwind weekend in Amsterdam!!! It was a crazy weekend, but we had a great time! Sarah, Jacqueline and Rebecca went into town early on a field trip with their students so Sarah and Elizabeth and I had a lazy morning here in the Hague and lunch on the boardwalk before heading into Amsterdam. We caught the train and got in about 4 o'clock. After wandering around a little bit we finally found our super cute apartment! We were staying right off the main square in a great location! We met the other girls, settled in, and headed to find dinner. We had a fun night out on the square before heading to bed Saturday's full day of sight seeing.

Saturday was full of museums, pictures and lots of walking. We headed out early and found a cute market right by our apartment. Unfortunately we also promptly realized that one of the girls wallets was missing out of her purse! After searching our apartment and retracing our steps from the night before, the only thing we can assume is that someone stole it out of her purse while we were out Friday night. Fortunately she only lost some cash, her credit cards and drivers license. She still has her phone, passport, bus card and eurail pass so it is all completely fixable.

After a crazy search for the missing wallet, we headed out to do some sight seeing. We covered a church, a synagogue, a couple museums and the Anne Frank House. We also decided to climb down to 'skate' on one of the canals. For the first time in 15 years, many of the canals in Holland are completely frozen over and the entire Dutch population is coming out to skate down the canals. After lots of walking and a little skating, we all crashed early! We were so worn out, everyone fell asleep by about 9!

Sunday we made a mad dash for the I Amsterdam letters for pictures, lunch in town and then back to the train station. As we were headed back to the Hague it started snowing! It was so pretty :) All the white snow covered up the brown slush that has been on the streets for days! I love new snow! We are back in the Hague, ready for another exciting week of teaching!

Our apartment in Amsterdam...It was super cute and in a great location, but the heater left something to be desired :) we used ALL of those blankets!!!

The cute door to our apartment! It was below street level! Also, the street is about a foot and a half from the top of those stairs. It definitely made leaving in the mornings interesting!
One of the beautiful canals in Amsterdam. Several of them had started to crack so there were just giant chunks of ice floaing in the water.

All of us after our skating adventure!
